BSB Rd 3 Oulton Park. Race Day Monday

06-05-2010

Race day brought changeable weather and a good result for Pat in particular.

The Supersport race was delayed by the start of rain, to allow a wet practice. When eventually started the race was heavily effected by the wet conditions which allowed Pat to take advantage of his good wet riding skills and progress gradually through the field over the course of the race including a pace car, to finish first in the cup competition and 7th overall. A great result for Pat and East Coast Racing. Shots of Pat on the podium are in the gallery here.

In the Superbike races Dan and Christian had different experiences:

Race one saw Christian and SMT make a good start in a group of five riders battling for eleventh position, after dropping to thirteenth behind Bridewell and Rutter Christian clipped the notorious kerbs and lost the front wheel falling out of the race. Christian made another solid start in the wet second race and was in a strong position when his race came to a very abrupt end on the opening lap after making contact with Relentless by TAS Suzuki’s Alistair Seeley coming out of Hizzy’s chicane, ending his weekend without any points. Positives in terms of race pace but frustrating results for Christian.

Dan and Rob Mac Racing made a good start in race one and dug in to finish a good 9th gaining some vital experience and making good progress in his first year on the Superbike. The second race was very much a lottery as the weather changed minutes before the start soaking the circuit and leaving no real choice of tyre other than full wets. It was inevitable the track would dry and it was really a case of bringing the bike home in one piece. Dan had a strong race after a difficult start saw him in 20th position, battling through to 10th his tyres paid the penalty. The drying track totally wrecked all the riders tyres and Dan had to settle for 14th at the flag, again experienced gained of how to handle a Superbike with no grip!

The change in weather and the delays to races meant that Martin's Superstock 600 race was not run. There will be a double race event at one of the upcoming rounds to be decided. A big weekend though for Martin with a strong step forward.
